Welcome to the World Grant Thomas!

On April 24, 2014 t 2:11 p.m. we welcomed Grant Thomas into our family. Grant weighed in at 10 lbs 4 oz and was 24 inches long. We are home from the hospital now, and everyone is doing well. Archie and Grace love him to pieces and want to hold him all the time. (They just need lots of help supporting his head.)

Christmas in July!

I feel like it's Christmas! Hunt's parents are finally here! That's the best present, of course, but they came laden with other goodies, which Archie is already enjoying.

Archie's first project with Grandpa was helping to open the suitcase. He says "key, key" and understands the concept but doesn't quite have the dexterity to turn it.

After awhile, Archie evidently decided he needed to defend himself from the wild animal and started chasing him with the broom. GIRAFFE ATTACK!

Blast off!

This morning I proclaimed myself "fat and overdue." (Hunter jokingly asked me if that was going to be the title of my blog post.) Actually, I'm not overdue. Today is the magic day (supposedly) but still no Grace. We are planning to go to the hospital so our doctor can help her come out (induce) if she's not here by tomorrow. He assures us she's ready. I am, too, but I'm kind of glad we have one day to play with Grandpa and Grandma and for Archie to adjust to them (which only took a matter of moments) before Grace comes.

36 Weeks Belly Shots!

We've had a lot of fun so far in Thailand. Meeting up with our friends who live in South Asia has been one highlight. The last time we saw them I was also approx. 36 weeks and she was approx. 18 weeks. Same now. Crazy, huh?

Here's the old picture for comparison. I think I'm a little bigger this time around.

Where are we now?

It's been a crazy two or three weeks since I last posted. I could probably write a multi-volume work, but time and internet constraints will force me to limit my words :)

Slightly before leaving country for Thailand, we decided it was apartment moving time. Archie sure had fun helping pack!

One of the only complications was a little fall I took outside our old apartment a few days before the scheduled move. Although both Grace and I are ok, we had to make a little emergency trip to Beijing to prevent her arrival six weeks early. (A little scary because due to complicated circumstances and time of day, I had to go by myself - leaving Hunt and Archie to fend for themselves at home.)

I'm glad Archie was a help with the boxes because upon my return, I had to stay in bed or on the sofa until our departure.

The other complication: We unexpectedly parted ways from our middle school the day before we left, which has left us puzzling over our visa situation. We're going to need a new visa to get back to our new apartment and stuff once Grace is born!

We spent a few days in Beijing en route to Thailand. Traveling days are rough days for Archie so he needed a little comfort from Daddy at the airport.

He did enjoy the Tex-Mex we had in Beijing, though. YUMMY!

Now we are in Chiang Mai, Thailand. We met up with some friends who live in South Asia for lunch and a trip to the playground. Archie likes his new friend Aashini.

I know I cut his head off in this pic, but look at his smile. He was certainly a "Happy Camper."

How does Archie like our new surroundings? Well, traveling has been a bit hard on him. Even harder were his doctor appointments the first two days we were in Thailand when we went on a whirlwind trip to the pediatrician, dentist and pediatric eye specialist. He got a nebulizer treatment for "pre-asthma" at the first stop (not too fun for a little guy), a good report at the dentist (unfortunately, also not too fun when your father, two nurses and the doctor have to hold you down) and a directive to patch his lazy eye two hours daily at the last stop. I am sure this will be an ongoing saga. He's doing ok with it on Day 2.

Our Family of Three: Summer Photo Shoot

We will change from a family of three to a family of four in approximately 37 days, so I wanted to seize the opportunity for one (perhaps final) family of three photo shoot.

Special thanks to friends Nick (our cameraman) and Preston (our baby wrangler - this is a professional term for the person who assumes responsibility for getting the baby to smile during the shoot - and what a great job he did :)

Grace Virginia (called Grace)

Since this may not be the most exciting post in the world, I thought I'd share a random, funny Archie saying. He has FINALLY started associating a few (very few) words with meaning. (I am still not sure Mama is one of them.) He is CRAZY about dogs and now hollers the local word every time he sees one. Unfortunately, he thinks dog is a general word to describe all animals and had a lot of trouble understanding why we were calling the little kitty we ran into yesterday cat instead of dog.

Birthday or Birth Day?

Another year has rolled around, and I've hit the big 26! (My first year being closer to 30 than 20 - seems weird!) Rather than plastering my blog with birthday with glamor shots of me, I thought I'd give an update on the upcoming BIRTH DAY of Peanut#2.

Here are some ultrasound pics from when I was 14 weeks. We're going to try to find out the gender in April, but if you want to make any early guesses, feel free! I'm progressively starting to revise my initial gut feeling of another boy, to become more in line with the 67% of you who guessed girl in my December Poll. (Lot's of differences between this time around and being pregnant with Archie.)



This pic is kind of neat because it has a diagram with the heartbeat at the bottom.

Just for fun, here's a pic of me with a few friends in Thailand last year before we delivered. Who do you think went first? Second? Last? I was actually #2 but all our babies were born within 2 months and I was only second by 4 days to the girl on the opposite end.
